Letter from the Chair of Forum For Equality Louisiana, John Hill

Welcome to the Forum For Equality Louisiana. We are glad you are here, reading about us, and we hope after you do, that you will join with us in fighting for equality.

The Forum is not a gay organization, but rather an organization of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and straights united in our belief that full human rights should be extended to the LGBT community. Just as African-Americans did not win civil rights in the 1960s without white allies, the LGBT community will not win equality without straight allies.

In watching Oprah’s show on gays coming out recently, I was struck by the progress that has been made over the past 20 years: hospital visitations, employee non-discrimination acts in many states (though not in Louisiana), corporate America’s embracing and honoring their LGBT employees, and just before the end of the year, the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

Much remains to be done.

About Forum For Equality

The Forum For Equality is a statewide human rights organization dedicated to the establishment of a society free from discrimination and to the support of good government. We believe that the fastest and most efficient way to achieve these goals is to educate our communities and to constructively participate in the political process.
