Oh What a Night!

Oh what a night is right! Last night’s performance of “8” was such a success thanks to the hard work of Southern Rep Theatre, the cast and the amazing Aimee Hayes, Producing Artistic Director who brought “8′” to New Orleans.

Academy-Award winning scriptwriter Dustin Lance Black, wrote the play so more Americans could hear what was said in the San Francisco trail. Black was a founder of American Foundation for Equal Rights, the sole backer of the Prop 8 challenge that is before the U.S. Supreme Court.  His presence added so much to the evening, and we are grateful to him, too. For more information, please visit http://www.dustinlanceblack.com

The American Foundation of Equal Rights and Broadway’s Impact shared with us and 400 cities across the United States California’s Prop 8 courtroom testimony. If you missed the show, you can see the Los Angeles Production online here. Dustin Lance Black told the audience to share the play and use it as a tool to have a conversation about the real life effects on LGBT families and how marriage equality impacts us on so many emotional, physical and financial levels. We encourage you to educate your families, friends, co-workers and legislators not only about the harmful effects of Prop 8 but the impact that the discriminatory laws that exist in Louisiana have on the LGBT community. Again, a very big thank you to Dustin Lance Black for sharing his work and time with us. It was a marvelous treat to have him as our guest, and we look forward to his return.

To be one of the first shows to reopen the Civic Theatre in over thirty years added something magical to the inspiring evening. Thanks to our all sponsors who helped “8” take center stage, with special thanks to Galloway Johnson Tompkins Burr & Smith.

And to those of you that we able to join us last night, thank you! Please share with us your pictures and experiences! You can post them to our Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/forumforequality or your can email them to me at sarahjane.brady@forumforequality.com.
