Two bills are heading to the floor and we need you to tell YOUR LEGISLATOR:
Please join Forum For Equality Louisiana in letting the Louisiana legislature know what is GOOD and what is BAD for the LGBT community. Below are the bills that we are supporting and opposing, but we need your voices to be the ones that guide the legislators to vote on the RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY! VOTE YES for Safe and Successful Students Act by Rep. Patricia Smith
Please join Forum For Equality Louisiana in lobbying the members of the House Education committee to PASS HB 646, the Safe and Successful Students Act filed by Rep. Patricia Haynes Smith.
This bill, HB 646, builds on and improves the current Safe Schools laws here in Louisiana. It better ensures the rehabilitation of troubled students rather than just turning them out of school with no reformative measures taken by the school system. HB 646 also greatly improves the reporting requirements to enable anti-bullying measures to better assist the student population at risk.
Our state’s youth are our future, and there’s a great opportunity at hand to educate each and every one to become respectful, contributing members of society. HB 646 is backed by a strong coalition of organizations committed to safe schools for Louisiana.
Let’s inform the members of the House Education Committee that HB 646 is good for our children, good for our families and good for our state.
VOTE NO for Gestational Surrogacy Act by Sen. Gary Smith
Many times we choose to expand our families in different ways, and this can at times include surrogacy. Forum For Equality supports the rights of individuals to utilize surrogacy as a viable option, but this option should not be limited to just married couples. Sen. Smith’s bill limits surrogacy of “intended parents” to only married couples, and despite our efforts to amend the current language, the bill is headed for the Senate floor without this change. Please let your legislator know that surrogacy is a welcome and acceptable way to expand one’s family, but should be a viable option for all of Louisiana’s families.
