The fight continues for Shreveport!

Forum for Equality, in collaboration with PACE, adamantly oppose the rogue effort of council member Ron Webb to undermine the widely supported ordinance that provides protections in employment, housing and accommodations to the Shreveport community. Webb, the lone Shreveport City Council member who voted against equal rights for the city’s LGBT citizens, filed a measure today to repeal the city’s new Fairness Ordinance, despite it’s passage last week by an overwhelming 6-1 majority vote.

The Fairness Ordinance is robustly supported by our civic leaders, the business community and citizens of Shreveport. Councilman Webb’s intolerant statements against the LGBT community in last week’s vote apparently weren’t enough for him after he landed on the losing side. So let the Shreveport City Council know that you not only support the Fairness Ordinance, but that repealing it will be even more harmful. If you live in Shreveport, send them an email today by clicking here.

PACE and Forum for Equality worked hard the past two years through our “Be Fair Shreveport” campaign to educate the community, connect with elected and civic leaders, and advocate for positive change in the law, as well as hearts and minds. Regressive thinking has no place in Louisiana. Every step forward – like the one in Shreveport – is one step closer to a fairer and more equal state.
