HB 707 is History!

With your help, the discriminatory “Marriage and Conscience Act” went down in defeat in the House Civil Law and Procedure Committee today by a vote of 10-2 to return it to the calendar without amendments.

Despite misleading and bizarre testimony from the bill’s author, Rep. Mike Johnson, and the president of the Louisiana Family Forum, Gene Mills, members of the Committee chose to stand up for commonsense Louisiana values and stop this attack on the LGBT community in its tracks. We packed the house today and represented a broad coalition against this odious legislation.

We couldn’t have done this without your help. You took action, contacted legislators, and made sure everyone knew what was at stake. Even though the proponents of HB 707 had enormous resources and the personal support of the Governor, they couldn’t break through the obvious truth that the bill would bring both tangible harm to individuals and general shame to our state.

Again, thank you. We were steeled for a long battle, but because of you, we killed this bill before it could even move forward to the full House.

This is great day in Louisiana. Please continue to support the Forum as we move forward and not backwards!

With equality,
