You are not a burden

Today’s announcement by President Trump that thousands of patriotic service members will be barred from serving our nation in uniform solely on the basis of their gender identity is not only an act of discrimination, but an affront to core values Americans share when it comes to our military. Those who are ready, willing and able to put their lives on the line to secure and defend our freedoms should never have to face being denied basic security themselves in furtherance of a narrow, ideological agenda.

We are proud to stand behind so many brave men and women who have made incredible sacrifices on our behalf in the armed forces. Transgender people have served this nation with distinction and courage, and they deserve nothing short of our full gratitude and support. While the President fell short of that imperative today, Forum for Equality will never stop working to see the day that everyone – regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity – always has the dignity to live up to their full potential, and we will continue to cherish and be thankful for all who are willing to risk the ultimate sacrifice in order to ensure the full blessings of liberty for all of us.
